Floridation – a new definition
I’ve heard the somewhat flippant term “Floridation” being buzzed around in certain circles at times. And no, this wasn’t a misprint for fluoridation, which is the process of adding fluoride to drinking water to help people not suffer from dental decay. As far as I can gather, this “Floridation” seems to refer to what happened in the shenanigans of the very closely contested 2000 election when Bush defeated Gore in the presidential race. Now we’re very close to another presidential election, I’m hearing the term again.
Now, in some ways, this strikes me as being a little unfair to the residents of Florida. Yes, this is an area with a very rapidly growing population (the Greater Tampa area serviced by the Bahia Real Estate team is one of the fastest growing areas in the USA) so its understandable that this state swings a bit of political clout. But the same large number of people probably don’t really want to be associated with dodgy voter-purges and hanging chads.
I want to propose a new definition of Floridation that reflects the real character of this state and why people want to live there. Floridation is the practice, common since colonial times, of spending the winter escaping from more icy climes for the balmy warmth of Florida – no hibernation, just Floridation.
